When you see someone in Pass Christian, the quintessential little town where I grew up, you stop and say hello. New in town? A neighbor will bring a bundt cake. This is what you do.
We were a military family and I grew up moving all the time. But when it came time for my father to retire from the United States Air Force, the Roberts family had to decide where we would put down roots. I am proud to say that we chose Mississippi. Limited.

She won the Bancroft Prize for her book The Name of War and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in history for The Story of America, which was also shortlisted for the PEN Literary Award for Essay Art. Her other award-winning books include Book of Ages, The Secret History of Wonder Woman, and These Truths: A History of the United States. Her book If Then: How the Simulmatics Corporation Invented the Future comes out this year.
